Liposculpture
The technique of Liposuction was developed in the early 80's by Gerard Ilouz and Pierre Fournier working in Paris. Dr Kingdon attended the first "workshop" given by these surgeons in Paris in 1984 and has performed over 12,000 cases.
The technique we use is known as "Liposculpture". This incorporates a number of refinements which makes it much more effective and safer than the older form of Liposuction. All our cases are now done as day cases, under local anaesthesia with sedation. This means there are advantages in terms of safety and speed of recovery. We use the tumescent method of local anesthesia which means we can remove larger volumes of fat with practically no blood loss, again increasing the safety margins for the patient.
Liposculpture is a treatment for localised fat areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. These localised areas are quite often genetically determined. Liposculpture is not a treatment for the overweight. However, Liposculpture can form part of the treatment for these patients providing they clearly understand that it must be part of a total programme including diet and exercise.
Once these fatty areas have been removed by Liposculpture they do not recur. The number of fat cells in the body is determined before puberty so that during Liposculpture many millions of fat cells are removed from the problem areas. If the patient's weight increases then the remaining fat cells can swell. However, we will have permanently reduced the amount of fat that can be put on in the problem areas.
Advanced Laser Lipolysis
This technique is now the gold standard for fat removal. The technology allows for a more gentle treatment with minimal side effects allowing quick recovery and resumption of normal activities.
The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic has always been a pioneer in fat removal.
The surgeon is Dr Alan Kingdon who attended the first Liposuction Workshop in the World in 1984. He has vast experience in Liposculpture in which localised fat deposits are removed under local anaesthesia with sedation. This is dealt with in more detail in a separate section.
However the combination of LIPOSCULPTURE skills with Laser technology has provided an effective treatment which is called ADVANCED LASER LIPOLYSIS. The technique is performed under local anaesthetic only.
Tiny incisions are made through which the laser is introduced. This is used to break down the fat which can then be easily removed by aspiration as an emulsion.
The Laser is then re-introduced to break down any residual small amounts of fat and to stimulate skin contraction .The laser's thermal effects on the skin lead to increased collagen production and shortening of existing collagen fibres. This means that we can achieve smoother results improving skin tone. Skin tightening may therefore be evident 2 to 4 months post treatment.
All parts of the body can be treated. The list below gives the most common areas treated:
- Thighs
- Abdomen
- Flanks
- Male chest
- Bra area (dorsal area)
- Arms
- Cheeks, jowls + neck
- Ankles
Advanced Laser Lipolysis is not a treatment for fat people and does not result in loss of weight but it does permanently get rid of persistent localised areas of body fat safely and efficiently
