INVERTED NIPPLE

This procedure is performed in our own theatre under local anaesthetic with sedation. Nipple retraction is normally due to tiny ligaments that pull the nipple down below the surface of the skin. These can be freed through tiny incisions made around the nipple so that the nipple is allowed to take on a normal shape. Special sutures are then used to maintain this normal position of the nipple.

It is important to realise that this procedure would prevent future breast-feeding so is normally an operation that is performed after the patient has completed her family.

Most commonly this procedure is carried out at the same time as other forms of breast surgery under general anaesthetic.
