Acne Treatment

Acne Treatment

In the UK, Most of us experience acne at some point in our lives, it is never a pleasant experience and it is always difficult to determine the best way to treat Acne without causing scarring or drying out the skin.  Here at Aesthetic Surgery Clinic we offer a variety of solutions to treat active acne, adult acne and work towards the removal of acne scaring. All of our treatments can be combined and used for face or body, with the back, chest and face being the most common areas.

Active Acne

Ellipse IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment works by reducing the blood supply to the sebaceous gland, which slows down production of the body oil sebum. It not only treats active acne it also prevents new spots from forming and when they do they will heal themselves a lot faster without leaving a scar.

A normal hair and sebaceous gland can become partially blocked. Bacteria acnes live on the sebum and produce fatty acids. The body responds by blocking the gland's exit to the skin. Sometimes the mixture of hair protein, oil and fatty acids damages the walls of the follicle and causes inflammation.

The visible light produced by the Ellipse systems is carefully controlled to produce the correct pulse length and right amount of energy to reduce the acne without damaging the surrounding tissue. This method is far less damaging to the skin than laser focussed or other holistic methods.

This light treatment is recommended by dermatologists and also used to treat rosacea, it is a mild treatment that feels slightly uncomfortable at the time but has no downtime. You should avoid being exposed to excessive sunlight for 30 days before and after this treatment and wear a factor 30 every day.

Post Acne Scarring

This common troublesome condition can affect the lives of many people from pre-teen, teenagers and adults. Most acne sufferers are left with "pit" like scarring that can look like small craters. Here at our Chiswick clinic we offer the following treatments:

Ellipse IPL - Where the scars are not very deep we can use IPL skin rejuvenation to speed up the healing of the skin and tighten the pores.

Dermal Filler - For deeper scars we can use a dermal filler which elevates the base of the "crater" making the scar less obvious. This is a very effective treatment particularly for larger deeper scars which of course are the most obvious.

Dermal Roller - This is very effective on deeper and shallower pitting, the fine medical grade needles cause a slight trauma to the skin to encourage healing and repair. Derma Rolling helps your skin to absorb any products used post treatment so you get more benefit from the active ingredients. It is also used as an anti-aging treatment.

All of these treatments can be combined as well as effective stand-alone treatments. For a personalised skin care plan please contact our London clinic to arrange a free consultation with a specialist
